SAIL
CATALINA
Huntington Beach, California
| The 65-foot L.O.A. motor-sailing SAIL CATALINA was designed by Barry Choy and Bob Perkins to
meet the clients unique requirements to motor each morning
to scenic Catalina Island at high speed, then sail back to Seal
Beach each afternoon in the light-to-moderate winds of Southern
California. With her classification as a true ferry, SAIL CATALINA
is capable of excellent performance under power or sail. Given her
specific route, her sail plan was optimized for best performance
off the wind on the daily reach back from Catalina. Under power,
twin turbocharged Caterpillar diesels allowed her to reach speeds
of up to 35 knots with ease. Under sail, her rotating wing mast
and maxed sail plan allow her to do wind speed in 15
knot conditions. In conditions above 15 knots, her performance off
the wind is truly outstanding. |
Her U.S. Coast Guard license to carry 49 passengers (exposed waters)
can easily be upgraded should it be necessary and her ferry-style
accommodations plan can easily be modified to suit other needs,
including day charter or dinner cruise applications. In her ferry
configuration, SAIL CATALINA features a snack galley in the main
salon and both toilets are located in the cabin, accessible without
going below.
